Art Opportunity, Call for Entries Barebrush July Calendars Deadline June 21

New York, NY — June 2, 2015. All visual artists are invited by BAREBRUSH founder and CEO, Ilene Skeen to submit art of all genres for three Barebrush calendar exhibitions: July 2015 N*des-of-the-Month calendar exhibition, the July 2015 PhotoArt N*des calendar exhibition, and the July 2015 Best-of-the-Rest calendar exhibition.

Curator and Juror of Awards: Guest Curator, James Patrick Reid, Artist & Art Lecturer
Guest curator, James Patrick Reid is a New York City-based artist and teacher. He is a member of the Painting Center gallery in Manhattan. Reid has served on the Fine Arts faculty at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, the Art Students League, and the New York Academy of Art. He has lectured numerous times at Parsons School of Design, the New York Studio School, and at art schools and universities around the country. His lecture subjects range from “Art and Metaphysics” (at Oregon State University) to “A structural Comparison of Tintoretto's Raising of Lazarus and Seurat's Evening, Honfleur” (at the New York Studio School).

James Reid's published writings have appeared in American Arts Quarterly, Westwind Arts and other publications.

When asked what he looks for in art, Mr. Reid answered:

There is a quality which characterizes the great art of all epochs and styes, from the Chauvet caves to Mondrian. It is vital form, form that lives thanks to the integrity and completeness of its relationships of line, shape, and tone, and by virtue of the resonance of the volumes and the space. Great abstract art aims directly at this quality, and the masterpieces of representational art from antiquity to the present time impressively embody it. This is the standard by which I judge art.
