For Immediate Release

NEW YORK/EWORLDWIRE/Mar 3, 2010 --- POP Art and "Character"  In her selection of both old and new work for the March and April barebrush N*des-of-the-Month calendars, Beth DeTal of Rogue Space|Chelsea was responding to the values of contemporary art. She especially liked work which pushed the media into new boundaries but at its foundation had character. Several pieces were singled out for special mention. She launched March with New York artist Cindy Sibilsky's "Shoulder Mountain" and said that Adrienne Mills Red Anon #554 was "awesome."

The 31 artists represented in March, 2010, in day order are: 1* Cindy Sibilsky, 2 Bill Teitsworth, NWS, 3 Jean Marcellino, 4* Donald Kolberg, 5 Gary Paul Stutler, 6 Peter King, 7* Adrienne Mills, 8 Dan McCormack, 9* Ruth Butler, 10 Anat Ronen, 11 Walter Lynn Mosley, 12 Aryn Chapman, 13 Joseph Mays, 14 Chris Hoffman, 15 Jennie Rosenbaum, 16 Tony Lee, 17 Stephanie Fuller, 18 Robert Nizamov, 19 Stephen Panoushek, 20 Emily Stedman, 21 Tim Woodhouse, 22 Colleen Martin, 23 William Jobling, 24* Mollie Kellogg, 25 Martin Danjue, 26 Hector Olvera, Etor, 27 Susan (SZN) Kraft, 28 Kelly Croisdale, 29 Viviana Florea, 30 Eric Angeloch, 31 Chanit Roston.

With the April calendar, DeTal continued her program of whimsy and character, laughing as she selected "Fit" by John Luce Lockett of England to start the month. She explained that by "character" she meant that "you could look at a piece and feel the personality of the artist and all the elements involved: the model, textures, colors. In many of these artworks, the artist found ways to show the human form in unconventional ways - contortion, etc." DeTal thought Mollie Kellogg probably "really enjoyed" painting her "Incognito Witch Project" series.

In another note, she made special mention of Jean Marcellino, the only barebrush artist to appear in both calendars. DeTal felt that although not her personal taste in art styles, Marcellino's art "rings true. She has an amazing talent for capturing likenesses." DeTal also said that she felt that she [DeTal] knows these people because "she [the artist] gets so much character into her work. If I met them, I would recognize them right away."
