Art must be uploaded to barebrush.com on or before Wednesday, January 23 to be eligible for the February exhibition, Artists are strongly encouraged to upload their entries early and avoid being closed out due to overflow in the closing days of the contest.

About Peter Scott and SHAG

Peter Scott has built his professional career in the art world by specializing in secondary market dealing. Now he is excited to discover and promote the work of progressive multimedia artists hidden in Brooklyn and beyond. In this first year, SHAG plans to present a combination of contemporary New York-based and internationally talented artists from Europe, Latin America and Asia....

"SHAG is an exciting small gallery in Chelsea, with big ideas," says barebrush CEO, Ilene Skeen. "I am very pleased that Peter has enthusiastically agreed to participate in barebrush. Peter has a quote on his website which resonates with the artist and art lover in us all:

"Art is what lifts us above daily life. It makes us more human, more refined and more intelligent."
When asked what art he would like to see for the February 2008 calendar, Peter said that he does not want February 2008 to be predictable or easy. He'd like to see art which exposes the artist's negative sexual experiences. He was specific: no pornography, meaning no art that celebrates depraved physicality, but rather, in his words, "Works related to individual trauma where personal violation and emotional scars and pain are manifested through art."

The artists of barebrush should get their work to barebrush as soon as possible. New artists are welcome to join. Artwork uploaded to the site during this contest period will be in consideration for both the February and March calendars.
