About Magnan Projects, Magnan Emrich Contemporary and Alberto Magnan
Magnan Projects was founded in May 2005 by Alberto Magnan and is managed with his partner Dara Metz. The gallery exhibits artists of diverse international backgrounds working in a broad range of medium. Magnan and Metz work closely with their artists assisting with fabrication and installation projects as well as promoting the artwork through collaborations with various institutions, organizations and corporations.
For over a decade, Alberto Magnan has sought out and developed the careers of cutting edge emerging and mid-career artists. After having established one of the first Chelsea galleries in 1997, Magnan left, in 2000, to pursue a career as an independent art advisor, taking collectors on international tours as well as filming a documentary on Cuban art. He decided to return to the gallery world in 2005. Dara Metz brings over fifteen years of experience in contemporary arts and design. She has worked in numerous galleries in New York City and as an independent curator and consultant to museums and non-profit organizations in the arts. Metz holds a Masters degree in Art History.
Magnan Emrich Contemporary was established by art dealer Alberto Magnan and his business partner Ed Emrich in 2006. The Gallery is dedicated to showcasing contemporary Latin-American art and special projects. In addition to establishing its own program, the Gallery invites guest curators to inject new concepts and knowledge of Latin-American art. Alberto Magnan continually searches for new and exciting artists in an effort to expose Latin-American arts and culture to a wider audience.
When asked about his expectations and what he would like to see from the artists for the barebrush July calendar, Alberto stated: “ I am looking for nudes that are portrayed in the most cutting-edge, non-traditional ways. I want to see the extent to which artists are playing with nudes in both concept, design, and materials."
Ilene Skeen, barebrush.com founder and CEO says, "Alberto Magnan's shows are always provocative and on the edge. He once told me that he is very cautious about getting aboard a trend -- he likes to make sure it is going to last. I am thrilled that Alberto has agreed to be guest curator for our July 2007 N*des-of-the-Month calendar and I am eager to see barebrush artists take up his challenge."
