Adult Art: Sept & Oct Nudes-of-the-Month from Barebrush

NYC curator selects 2 months, 61 artworks, 41 artists for Barebrush 3rd anniversary

Funky, Parts 1 & 2: Mary Logan of Kim Foster Gallery loves to laugh. Her laugh is gentle and welcoming, never derisive or negative. When Logan agreed to curate September and October, launching the 2009-2010 art season, she worked hard at stating the essence of what she would like to see. Her final version on the call for entries:"Capturing a sense of personal identity or expression in a birthday suit display. What fun!"

The N*des-of-the-Month September calendar is the 37th barebrush monthly calendar. It celebrates the third anniversary of barebrush. All previous calendar art can be viewed in the calendar archives (link at right). As barebrush launches into its 4th year, creator Ilene Skeen says, "More than ever we are sure that by demonstrating success at barebrush, we move toward our goal of increasing the awareness, appreciation and acceptance of the art of the nude."

October 2009 N*des-of-the-Month was part 2 of Logan's curation effort. For the two months, she chose 61 artworks by 41 artists. Logan had a singular vision for both months. In terms of artistic skill, she looked for form and color, energy and solidity on the page. In terms of personality, she looked for humor and narrative. Funky was her byword for a down-home compliment.

The September calendar is live to the public on the website now. The October calendar is in previews (for members only) and will be live to the public on October 1.
