Barebrush Artist Featured In American Artist Drawing Magazine

Here is a note received from Barebrush Featured Artist, Jean Marcellino (congratulations Jean!):

Hi all,

I’m delighted to report that I’m the subject of a ten-page article in the current Winter issue of American Artist’s “Drawing” Magazine. It’s entitled “Making Quick Progress with a Confident Hand,” and was written by Bob Bahr. It includes a step-by-step demo drawing. “Drawing” Magazine has very wide distribution. I usually buy it in Borders, but I know it’s also for sale in Barnes & Noble, Walmart, and just about any magazine store that features an art section. The article begins on page 58. I’m attaching a PDF of the cover, and the first spread.

Save the Date: Valentine's Weekend Show, Draw, Talk in NYC

Attention Barebrush Artists: Valentine's Weekend Show - Feb 12-14

Rogue Space Chelsea is hosting a Valentines Weekend "Nude" Group show and artists weekend workshop. This promises to be a fabulous event.

Rogue's monthly group shows and marketing workshop weekends have become a very popular forum for artists looking to expand their outreach and marketing awareness. They are energetic weekends filled with informative seminars by industry experts, social activities, networking and learning designed to encourage and educate artists on the process of marketing and pricing and their work. A drawing will be held for an artist to have a one night solo show at Rogue Space

In addition, as a fun treat, on Friday, February 12th, Rogue has added a live nude draw competition at the opening night reception with prizes for the best renditions.

Among the invited speakers for the marketing workshop (Saturday, February 13), is barebrush founder and CEO, Ilene Skeen, who will talk about her research into the anthropology of art and the art dealers of Chelsea: What do dealers look for in art? What do they want an artist to do? To be? How can you be the artist that dealers prize?

Art Opportunity: Deadline Feb 18, 2010 - Call for Entries

Barebrush Mar & Apr 2010 N*des-of-the-Month. Curator to select 61 artworks. Prizes.

New York, NY –- Jan 17, 2010. All visual artists are invited by BAREBRUSH founder and CEO, Ilene Skeen to submit art of the nude for the March and April 2010 N*des-of-the-Month calendar contests.

Guest curator for the March and April exhibitions is Ms. Beth DeTal, curator for Rogue Space, Chelsea (NYC). DeTal holds a BFA degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She has been associated with Rogue's FilmsOnArtist series and served as the coordinating director of the recent, and highly successful, West Chelsea High Line Open Studios project. When asked to select the art for the March and April barebrush N*des-of-the-Month, DeTal had a one word reply:

Barebrush Photographer Joe Mays at LAL Nude 2010

Lexington Art League (Kentucky) Annual Nude Show Includes Barebrush Photographer

Barebrush is proud to announce that Featured Artist, Joseph Mays, of Kentucky was selected for the Lexington Art League 2010 annual nude show, open to all artists working in this controversial genre.

Now in its 24th year, the highly anticipated QX.net Nude 2010 includes works focusing on the human form, personal identity, exploring contemporary life and the social politics that impact us all.

Mays was asked about his work for an interview with a local television station. To the question, "What is it about the human form that makes it a subject of study for you?" he replied:

I don't really think my subject is the human form. I think my subject is humanity. I just think the nude is the most honest way of exploring that subject. To me, a nude is not just a picture of a particular person, it's a picture of what it means to be a human being.

Mays also discussed his work with artist and model, Jill Morgan. Mays wrote,

Jill...is not the model in the piece in the show. She's an accomplished artist and has had a number of shows here in Louisville. She is far better known in the art community in Louisville than I am. The piece in the show was part of a collaborative series we produced. She bodypainted the models in black light paint, and I posed and photographed them under black light. I conceived of the series, but intentionally had Jill in mind as the person to do the abstract body painting because I knew what she'd bring to it. It's truly a 50/50 collaboration.

Barebrush Photographer Dan McCormack in Solo Show

I received this note from Barebrush Featured Artist, Dan McCormack:

I have a solo show of over 50 of my photographs of nudes at the Photography Center of the Capitol District, 50 River Street, Troy, NY. The show opened Friday, January 8th and the show runs till February 21st, 2010. The reception for the show is Friday, January 29th from 5:00 to 9:00pm. The show is titled: "Dan McCormack - Varied Projects" and it includes work from 1990 to 2009. I will be doing a photographic workshop with the nude figure onSaturday, February 13th from noon to 5:00pm at the Center.

Artists in the Troy area, take note: Dan is has a fascinating approach -- and makes a great presentation. Check it out if you can.

January BLAST-O-GRAM Introduces New Barebrush

The Barebrush New Dynamic Menus Are Here at Last!

Take a look at our new menu system. The menus change dynamically with Today's N*de, Today's Artist, and the N*des-of-the-Month. Best of all, when you go to a particular artist's gallery, you will see that artist's name in the far right menu -- easiest navigation system yet!

Featured Artists will see a link to their Featured Artist page in the dynamic menu (soon!).

I don't want to say too much, just try it out and you'll discover how easy it is. I'm convinced that this enhancement will make barebrush not only unique (we are already unique and we can't be more unique), but also on the forefront of dynamic websites, designed for how you want the internet to work -- for you.

Also new to these pages is a feed from Museworthy, a thoughtful and well-written blog by Claudia, a New York City artist's model and friend. I hope you enjoy Claudia's blog and the new barebrush.

I know it was a long time coming, but I really hope that you agree it was worth the wait. This new menu system gives us the wherewithall to automate the sort by genres, the Featured Artists pages and the Buy-Now program. Thank you so much for your patience.
